5 Things to Change If You Want to Fulfill Purpose Series – Pt.1

My mentor once told me that my greatest strength and greatest weakness are the same. When I heard that I thought, um…that makes no sense at all. But then she said, “It’s your mind.” GASP! < mind blown >

I am naturally very analytical and creative mentally. In a matter of seconds, I have thought out a million possible scenarios of how things may play out or a million ideas of how to implement something. It’s an amazing strength but if not kept in check, my so-called strength will have me writing to you all from a lovely, all-white padded room.

That is why my mind, specifically my mindset was something I needed to change (and still need to change depending on some days) in order to begin intentionally walking in my purpose.

You cannot bring your old, rusty, dusty mindset into this new journey of fulfilling your purpose.

Your mindset MUST change. It is not an option.

Your mind has to be open and pliable to the way your purpose may be fulfilled because guess what? 9 times out of 10 it’s not going to happen the way you think it will.

When I was younger I used to say I’m very good at telling people what to do. As I got older and more mature in who I am, it changed to I really like helping people with their problems. Now I realize, it’s all of the above but really it’s teaching, or in other words, coaching people through….to. (See what I did there?)

Through those various stages, my mindset was changing. If I didn’t become more pliable to what my purpose could be, trust me when I say I would not be writing this blog today. Why? Because I never even wanted to write. It wasn’t on my radar AT ALL. I don’t journal, never kept a diary, I just wasn’t that girl. In MY mind, writing had absolutely nothing to do with my purpose. But through writing I’ve actually been fulfilling part of my purpose.

Through something I never even had a desire to do, God used that to help me fulfill my purpose.

If you’ve been feeling frustrated or even inadequate because your purpose isn’t coming along the way you thought it would, I want you to change your mindset. Be pliable. Realize that the way you may fulfill purpose may actually look nothing like what you thought.

Change your mind about how you think it should get done or how it will look.

Identify any negative and/or stubborn thought patterns you have that may be delaying your purpose.

Free your mind and the rest will follow!

  1. My purpose came from doing something I always did but never looked at as purpose. I was doing what God called me to do but still chasing something that was never intended for me to do in the first place.

Changing your mindset is one of hardest things to do, though I’ve gotten better at it, I still struggle a bit. This post has reminded me that even though I never payed attention in the beginning to what God was telling me to do, he shifted my mindset in another direction.

I always look forward to Tuesday’s just to read your post. Thank you for being consistent.

    Love you 💕

    1. Mellie,
Wow! I had a similar experience regarding my purpose. I was always doing it and it came naturally for me, so I just never thought that was it. Glad your mindset is changing about what He’s called you to do. Thank you so much for your support sis. LOVE LOVE YOU. 🙂

  2. “You cannot bring your old, rusty, dusty mindset into this new journey of fulfilling your purpose.” – why is this hilarious to me but, soooo true. You can’t have a mindset filled with negatives or what ifs or second guessing and expect to fulfill a purpose with that kind of mindset cause it never works that way and you’ll be stuck lol. I’ve been there turns of time but, as time went by and I’ve gotten older it’s like in order to step into a new journey you have to start with a better and new mindset. It’s like you can’t expect to be successful without failures or you can’t expect great results with no work or nothing cause nothing will come to you, you got to go out there and get it for yourself….. listen I love you and as always you come through with the most uplifting series, can’t wait for part 2 😉.

    Xoxo,

  3. You always come with it!! I can relate, like always lol. As you know I have also been in the practice of shifting my mind set for the better and it really helps. It makes things more clear. Rather than me trying to push and force something that wasn’t meant for me, I allowed God to orchestrate my steps and moves and now feel so much better about the direction I am heading in.. I also feel more in-tune with my purpose as well. You’re awesome. ALWAYS love your posts AND I loveeee you lol.

  4. This is an amazing article. I love the “it won’t happen the way you think it will” its so true. Just when I think that I know what’s going on or if I am making the right decisions, God gives me a completely new path to travel because he is working through me. Thank you for this post.
