You know that scene in every horror movie where the killer is chasing the girl and she falls or trips like a hundred times? You watch her falling down over imaginary objects and you’re like screeeamming at the screen for her to get up?
Although those scenes work my nerves, I noticed one thing about the girl in the movie: she never stops moving. She always gets back up. I’ve even seen some characters try to crawl to get away.
Why? Because they have a firm purpose and determination; they are literally willing themselves to LIVE!
If you want to fulfill purpose, you’re going to have to change your willpower. If it’s low, gain some more willpower. If it’s already high, you still need more, because in life, things will occur to deter you from fulfilling your purpose.
Now personally, I despise running. So as much as I scream at the TV for the damsel in distress to get up, I’d probably be the one stopping, turning around and saying, “Look. You just gonna have to kill me because I can’t run anymore.”
Horrible. I know.
But I believe we do the same at times. We’re everyone else’s cheerleader; pushing, motivating and encouraging our friends & family to keep going…but when we’re down…when we get discouraged…when we’re overwhelmed, all of a sudden that voice of encouragement is silent.
In the Bible, David was going through so much and the Scripture said that he encouraged himself in the Lord (1 Samuel 30:6). Society would say give yourself a pep talk but I want to encourage you today to encourage yourself in the comforting arms of the One who created you!
When pursuing purpose, remind yourself that you were created for this. Remind yourself that you’re God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10) and that the plans He has for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).
Fulfilling purpose is not easy. Please don’t think the day you decide to walk in what you were created for that you will not have days where you don’t feel like it. Don’t think that you won’t have days where everything is going haywire and you question if this is what you really should be doing.
You need to increase your willpower and your determination to continually fulfill purpose so that when those days do come, you’re PREpared.
WILL: purpose or determination, often hearty or stubborn determination; willfulness:
Be like the girl in the horror movie who keeps moving no matter what…minus the whole eventually getting caught and killed thing.
P.S. Pray for my ankles and shins so I can run LOL!
